Pangolia has acquired Hepper, a cat furniture brand. The CEO, Simon, is looking for an Ecommerce Manager to work with him, lead the brand, and take the company to the next level. This is a high-growth opportunity for anyone who has operations, some marketing, and ecommerce experience. The team has 15 other great people so you’ll have the support you need. The Role

Are you an operations manager who gets excited about growing a brand from obscure to massive? Then this is the opportunity for you.

Pangolia recently acquired Hepper—a modern cat-furniture brand—and we’re looking for a special individual to be 100% focused on growing this brand exponentially. As you’ll soon learn, Pangolia is heavily invested in becoming the number one resource for pet owners, helping them make educated decisions about caring for their animals. Hepper is our first foray into launching products that will improve the lives of our customers.

This location-independent position represents the leading edge of commerce in 2021. The candidate we hire will start as Operations Manager of Hepper, and if your performance is outstanding, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your team and become the COO of Hepper. There’ll also be the opportunity to receive shares of the company and become a part-owner.

You’ll be responsible for drawing the roadmap for you and your team to follow to our destination. We’re talking about:

  • Marketing/driving more sales
  • Profit margin optimization
  • Continuous product improvement
  • Building systems and processes

You will have the freedom to hire a team, manage it, and delegate to others.

Who We’re Looking For

You should have some experience with:

  • E-commerce (Shopify & Amazon FBA) experience is a big plus, but not required.
  • Having bootstrapped something from nothing to massive is a big plus, but not required.
  • Experience managing other people, and delegating, is a big plus, but not required.
  • B2C digital marketing strategies

The kind of person we’re looking for is also:

  • A critical thinker and a great strategizer that takes initiative, instead of being told what to do
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Quick learner who can figure things out without supervision
  • Fairly tech-savvy (can quickly learn new online tools, good with Excel)
  • Fluent (or almost) in oral and written English
  • Wants to work remotely with flexible work hours
  • Just as comfortable sharing critical feedback as you are at receiving it
  • Willing to work some weekends if that’s what it takes to make Hepper big

Hepper was handed over to us by Jed Crystal, a brilliant product designer. The company has been in business for 10 years, and has been featured on The New York Times, Elle Decor, Catster, and many other places.

  • Launching the most popular affiliate program in the pet industry (a program where we pay commissions for driving sales of our products)
  • Ruthless focus on optimizing the current business model (trimming the product selection, new website, optimizing listings, etc.)

Who We Are

Pangolia is an online publishing company with a majority interest in the pet industry. We currently have 15 team members spread all over the world. We also work with dozens of talented writers, vets, and editors.

We specialize in creating useful articles and resources that help people and pets solve their problems, and improve their lives. We then (mainly) promote our brands with a hard focus on SEO to rank well in search engines such as Google.

Our Work Culture

We’re a relatively small team (right now). We communicate over Slack, and we’re still defining our company culture. Our goal is a culture focused on work and collaboration, but also while being open to the casual humor & chatter that makes us get to know each other.

We plan on doing yearly company retreats, where we all meet up together and have fun.

What could a typical day look like?

Initially, in the first month, there will probably be a lot of focus on building the systems, structures, and SOPs on how to manage the baseline E-commerce operations (Amazon FBA and Shopify). SOPs for how to order products from manufacturers, quality control, shipping within the US, shipping from warehouses in the US to Amazon FBA, Stock forecasting, dealing with all the possible mess-ups, etc.

Once streamlined processes, systems, and SOPs are in place, you’ll probably want to hire someone who will take care of the baseline operations as mentioned above, so that you can focus on growing and improving the brand. A day in this phase would probably look something like this:

  • Collaboration with our content team on our pet sites to make them give more exposure to Hepper products (email lists, best posts, etc.)
  • Networking with our manufacturers, biggest affiliates (blogs that promote us), negotiate better rates with our manufacturers
  • Managing your team (checking in with the person responsible for baseline operations, Social media manager, etc.)
  • Proactively do PR outreach and campaigns (maybe hire for this position)
