Director, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting
As the Director of Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting you will lead financial reporting and technical accounting and play a pivotal role in maturing the Company’s processes. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Director, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting will be an integral member of accounting leadership.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Lead the preparation and review of periodic financial statements and footnotes to ensure compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations as well as SEC filings
Review of earnings release materials including the press release, script and earnings presentation as well as related support
Oversight and review of technical accounting research, technical accounting memos and communication of technical accounting conclusions including collaborating with the business and FP&A to understand transactions and communicate accounting position of such transactions.
Lead a team of up to 4 people and foster their growth and development
Review of covenant calculations in accordance with the Company’s debt agreements
Ensure effective design and operation of certain key and non-key internal controls related to financial reporting and technical accounting
Responsible for the preparation and review of certain audit committee and disclosure committee materials
Responsible for purchase accounting for business combinations, management of third party valuation experts and related SOX controls as well as accounting due diligence.
Lead efforts to monitor and interpret new accounting standards and SEC regulations and the related impact to the Company including appropriate documentation and any implementation of such new standards
Oversight of the accounting, including accounting reconciliations for certain areas, such as, but not limited to, stock based compensation
Partner with Investor Relations, FP&A, Human Resources, Tax, Internal Audit, Accounting Operations and other cross functional groups to achieve objectives
Serve as the primary point of contact for the external audit firm as it relates to the quarterly review and annual audit
Ad hoc projects as needed
What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:
Experience:
10+ years of progressive job related experience, with a strong preference for a minimum of 5 years of Big 4 public accounting experience.
5+ years of experience managing a team
Knowledge of ERP systems as well as financial reporting platforms such as Workiva or Bridge and proficiency with Google Business Applications (docs, sheets and slides) and MIcrosoft Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
Strong experience in financial reporting, US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations governing financial statements and disclosures for public companies
Experience working with high growth or technology companies and/or companies that have recently made a public stock offering.
Role requirements:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting
Active CPA license
Proficiency in the English language both spoken and written
Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations is required
Strong writing skills to construct and/or provide review comments on comprehensive written financial statement disclosures and technical accounting memos
Ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues as well as articulate business and accounting issues to finance and non-finance audiences.
Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and communicate such priorities to team members while communicating status to stakeholders.
High degree of attention to detail.
A leader with a demonstrated ability to foster growth and development for team members.
Demonstrated experience and passion for improving processes to achieve efficiencies
Commitment to effective operation of SOX controls.
